Mat Rat wrestlers win tourney

MONROE - The Monroe Mat Rats finished first place in the Monroe tournament Jan. 20.

Of the 45 Mat Rat wrestlers, 21 finished in the top two. The eight champions were Lukas Andersen, Jack Dubach, Luke Dubach, Wyatt Heimann, Samuel Kind, Patrick Rielly, Brady Schuh and Alex Witt.

Thirteen wrestlers finished in second: Louis Armstrong, Dempzy Foley, Casey Grindey, Grant Grossen, Cole Lincicum, Bodie Minder, Cole Murray, Braden Rupnow, Christian Schuh, Garret Voegeli, Owen Voegeli, Clayton Waski, Sebastian Watkins.

The third place finishers were Timmy Andersen, Wyatt Brown, Lane Meier, Cole Meighan, Kade Paulson, D.J. Rath, Lane Scace, Zander Slack, Zack Steele, Aidan Sweeney, Delaney Sweeney, Tristen Vasquez and Jacob Walker.

Fourth place finishers were Jace Daughenbaugh, Dayne Garwell, Gavin Grindey, Garrett Grossen, Samuel Hughes, Corbin Mann, Daniel Prien, Roderick Rath, Oliver Schmelzer, Jackson Upmann and Payton Weckerly.

The Mat Rats also took second place in Evansville at the Demons Youth Wrestling Tournament Jan. 26-27. The Milton monsters edged the Mat Rats by two points for the title.

In the 2002-03 age group, Lukas Andersen, Luke Dubach, Minder and Garrett Voegeli all finished in first place. Aidan Sweeney took second. Jack Dubach took first in the 2004-05 age group and Clayton Waski finished second.

Patrick Rielly finished first in the 2000-01 age group. Wyatt Heimann took third, and Timmy Andersen was fourth. In the 1998-99 age group, Cole Murray finished first. Owen Voegeli took third in the 2006-08 age group, and Casey Grindey was fourth.

Several other wrestlers competed at other tournaments. Alex Witt won the title at the Marshall tournament. Minder and Garrett Voegeli also took first in the Marshall tournament.

Roderick Rath and D.J. Rath each wrestled in the Clintonville tournament. Roderick finished third place, and D.J. took fourth.
