ARGYLE — Brianna Wilhelmson lined an RBI single in the sixth and Kylie Butler struck out the final batter in the seventh in Argyle-Black Hawk’s 9-8 win over Palmyra-Eagle on Wednesday, March 27.
The Orioles scored four runs in the first, starting with four straight singles from Butler, Mya McNett, Maddy Lange and Ava Wiegel. A Panther error allowed a second run to score, and Adrionna Ubersox drove in the third with an RBI single. A bases-loaded walk from Wilhelmson scored the fourth run.
Palmyra-Eagle responded to take an 8-4 lead with two runs each in the second and third and a four-run fourth. ABH chipped away with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Lange led off the sixth with a single to left, and Sara Helfvogt knotted the game at 8 with an RBI double to center. Four batters later, Wilhelmson drove in what proved to be the game-winning run.
Butler worked out of a jam in the top of the seventh, as the first four batters reached base. The Panthers ran themselves into outs, though, as two runners were thrown out at second. Butler then struck out the last batter to secure the win.
All but one Oriole batter recorded a hit. Ubersox went 4-for-4 with an RBI, and Lange was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. McNett got the start, giving up eight runs on 13 hits. Butler came in the fourth and didn’t surrender a run over 3 2/3 innings to get the win.
