WIAA boys basketball playoffs, first round results. Round 2 will take place Friday, March 1. For a full recap of Tuesday's games, see the Saturday, March 2 edition of the Monroe Times.


Division 2

Monroe 61, Sauk Prairie 56

The Cheesemakers went through the grinder, but a couple of big plays late in the game by Nick Schumacher sends Monroe into Round 2 against No. 1 seed Mount Horeb.


Division 4

Brodhead 78, Montello 60

The Cardinals led by 13 at halftime against 10th-seeded Montello. Brodhead travels to second-seeded Belleville in Round 2.


New Glarus and Darlington each had first round byes. No. 1 seed Darlington will play Aquinas, which beat Lancaster 61-50. New Glarus will host Watertown Luther Prep, who were 82-43 winners over Cashton.


Division 5

Monticello 67, Central Wisconsin Christian 35

The Ponies had little trouble against ninth-seeded CWC. Up next is the state's No. 1 team, unbeaten Randolph.


Pecatonica 69, Madison Country Day 28

The Vikings dominated from the start, leading 40-6 by halftime. Pecatonica hosts Fall River in Round 2.


Black Hawk 84, Johnson Creek 68

Colby Argall scored 36 and Conner Meyer had 22 as the Warriors move on to face second-seeded Rio.


Rio 92, Juda 38

The Panthers close out the season with just one win after getting throttled by second-seeded and 10th-ranked Rio.


Fall River 57, Argyle 44

Fifth-seeded Fall River earned a hard-fought win over the Orioles.


Cambria-Friesland 85, Albany 77

The 11th-seeded Comets gave CF a fight to the end, but ultimately came up short.
