WARREN — Four Warren/Stockton pitchers combined to no-hit Black Hawk in their season opener.

Junior Cyler Cornelius struck out eight batters over four perfect innings to get the WarHawks started, while teammates Charlie Breed, Wes Logemann and Alex Altfillisch each tossed a hit-less inning with three Ks apiece to finish off a 7-0 non-conference win over the Warriors (0-1 overall) at Merridian Park on Monday, April 3.

The four WarHawk pitchers joined together to record strikeouts for 17 of the Warriors’ 21 outs.

The WarHawks took advantage of some shaky Warrior defense to plate unearned runs in the first, third and fifth frames. All seven runs were unearned as two Warrior pitchers combined to allow just three hits and three walks in the game while fanning six batters. The Warriors hurt themselves with seven errors in the field.

Junior Brady Broshous had a two-run single in the first inning, reached on an error and scored on another miscue in the third and lined a RBI-single in the fifth for the hosts. Austin Chumbler added a double, a run and a RBI for the WarHawks, while Drew Mensendike reached base three times and teamed with courtesy runner Drew Stietz to score three times in the win.

Warren/Stockton had a perfect game going into the sixth inning when Dylan Haldiman and Dempsey Schliem drew back-to-back two-out walks to account for the Warriors’ lone base runners.

Schliem worked the first three inning, allowing five runs- none earned- on two hits and two walks with three Ks. D. Haldiman pitched three innings, yielding one hit and one walk with three Ks.

Next up, Black Hawk heads to Benton to play Shullsburg/Benton on Thursday, April 11, at 5 p.m., and then has SRE games at Argyle on Monday, April 15, and at home against Pecatonica on Tuesday, April 16, both at 5 p.m.
