Updated state rankings for basketball, wrestling released

MONROE — In the Dec. 24 release of the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association polls, three local teams made the top 10 in their respective divisions.

In girls basketball, Black Hawk remains the No. 1 team in Division 5. The Warriors (5-0) are the defending state champions and haven’t lost a game since the 2018 state championship. Shullsburg (7-0) is ranked fourth.

On the boys side, Darlington (6-0) is fourth in Division 4, up one spot from a week ago. The Redbirds are joined by two other schools from the SWAL conference: Cuba City (5-0) is No. 1, while Fennimore (6-0) moves up a spot to No. 6.

In Division 5, Monticello (7-0) climbed one spot to seventh.


Monroe, Pec-Argyle have wrestlers ranked in state

MONROE — Five Cheesemakers remain listed in the top 10 in the Wisconsin Wrestling online rankings, released Dec. 24.

At 182 pounds, senior Alex Witt is fourth in Division 2, up from fifth a week ago. Fellow senior Bodie Minder is fifth in the heavyweight division.

Monroe senior Kelsey Dominguez (220), senior Patrick Rielly (160), and freshman Jack Dubach (106) all received honorable mention nods.

Darlington-Black Hawk has two wrestlers listed — senior Leif Bredeson is the top-ranked heavyweight, while Cayden Milz is honorable mention at 170.

Brodhead-Juda senior Brian McCullough is 12th at 152 pounds, and Sugar River junior Joe Quaglia is ninth at 132, dropping two places.

In Division 3, Pecatonica-Argyle has five grapplers ranked. Junior Noah Krahenbuhl is fourth at 132, the same ranking as senior teammate Easton Schraepfer holds at 170. Senior Dalton Turner (182), Dawson Gross (126) and sophomore Tate Hirsch (195) are honorable mention.
