Season opens with indoor invitationals at UW schools

PLATTEVILLE — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville held its annual indoor Tri-State Invitational March 18-19, with the large schools competing the first day, and the small schools in Day 2.

Sugar River was the boys team champion in the small school division, while the Raiders were fifth on the girls side. Albany was 14th for girls and 17th for boys. 

In the large school competition, Brodhead-Juda was 10th for the girls and 11th for the boys, while Darlington took sixth for both boys and girls.

First-place finishers for Darlington included:

●  Easton Evenstad, 55-meter dash (6.72)

●  Easton Evenstad, long jump (19-feet, 11.0 inches)

●  George West, 1,600-meter run (5:06.58

●  Rhett Reuter, 3,200-meter run (10:53.89


First-place finishes for Brodhead-Juda included: 

●  Stella Arn, 200-meter dash (28.44)


Third-place finishers for Albany included:

●  Ava Ahnen, 1,600-meter run (5:55.55)


First-place finishers for Sugar River included:

●  Ava Foley, long jump (16-06)

●  Ava Foley, triple jump (32-11.5)


Nelson Daniels Classic, UW-Whitewater

WHITEWATER — Black Hawk opened its track and field season at the Nelson Daniels Classic on the campus of UW-Whitewater. Just four girls and four boys participated.

“While we did not score, it was great experience for our kids,” said coach Eric Erickson. “We were the smallest school compete against most schools that were 600-1,000-plus students.”

Both of the Warriors’ 800-meter relay teams finished 11th. 

In the girls’ 55-meter hurdles, Veronica Cheatham was 12th at 11.98 seconds. Maddy Lange (8.32) was 33rd in the 55-meter dash, while Jenna Meier was 44th (8.46) and Savannah Freitag (8.69) was 53rd.

On the boys side, Elijah Shelton (7.02) was 20th in the 55-meter dash, with Jovanny Erickson (7.18) 31st and Andrew Figi (7.2) 32nd.

In the triple jump, Lane Marty was 17th at 33-11.

The boys 1,600-relay team was 13th (4:08.64).
