Schadewalt scores career-high 36 against Lakeside Lutheran

NEW GLARUS —Lindsey Schadewalt is off to a hot start in her senior basketball season with another personal best. The Maryville-commit scored 36 points against Lakeside Lutheran to propel her team to a 60-47 win on Saturday, Dec. 2. With the victory, New Glarus, ranked No. 3 in Division 4, improves to 5-0.

Schadewalt was 5-for-7 from beyond the arc and a perfect 11-for-11 at the charity stripe. She also grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double. Emma Martinson was the second-highest scorer with nine points and seven rebounds.

New Glarus also defeated Columbus 68-40 on Thursday, Nov. 30. Schadewalt scored another 29 points with six 3s. Martinson also finished in double figures with 13 points. Payton Schneider grabbed a team-best six rebounds, while Bella Brenkman dished out eight assists. 

WHITEWATER 56, MONROE 25

ELKHORN 75, MONROE 5

MONROE — The Cheesemakers suffered a pair of losses in a two-day stretch.

Monroe scored the first points against Whitewater on Thursday, Nov. 30 but trailed from that point on. Lindsay Leuzinger and Sophie Golembiewski paced the offense with six points each. Both of Leuzinger’s points came from beyond the arc. Delaney Fortney grabbed a team-high six rebounds. 

Monroe outrebounded Whitewater 34-22 but turned the ball over 33 times, leading to 26 points for the Whippets.

Ball-handling woes continued in Monroe’s loss to Elkhorn on Friday, Dec. 1, as the Cheesemakers committed another 34 turnovers. The Elks scored 47 of their points off Monroe’s errors. 

Brinley Roidt had three of Monroe’s five points, while Anastasia Lattin had the other two. The Cheesemakers struggled to set up their offense, attempting 23 total shots. Elkhorn, on the other hand, made 33 shots. The only offensive category that Monroe bested Elkhorn in was free-throw percentage. The Cheesemakers were 1-for-2, while the Elks were 3-for-7. 

ALBANY-MONTICELLO 68, HIGHLAND 38

ALBANY — The Comets, ranked No. 2 in Division 5, extended their winning streak to six games with a Six Rivers crossover game on Saturday, Dec. 2.

Albany had four players in double figures, led by senior Alana Durtschi with 15 points. She made two 3-pointers and went 5-for-7 from the free-throw line. Abby Hollis tallied 13 points with three 3s. Dalana Trumpy and Molly Olson recorded 11 points each. Anna Ellinger and Karlee Wilkins chipped in seven points each, while Avary Briggs and Emerson Briggs tallied two.

In other local girls basketball, Clinton defeated Brodhead 57-25.
