SPRING GREEN — River Valley hosted a 20-team invite on Saturday, Sept. 9 with both large and small school races. Darlington girls, ranked No. 1 in Division 3 by the Wisconsin Cross Country Coaches Association, finished first in the small-school division behind the performance of overall champion Adalee Berget.
With its first full team of the season, Pecatonica-Argyle finished 10th with 276 points. Trailing by 13 points, Albany took 11th of 15 teams.
In the small-school boys race, Albany finished third behind ranked opponents Fennimore and Boscobel. Brayden Bakken paced the Comets with his sixth-place finish. Darlington finished seventh, followed by Pecatonica-Argyle in 14th.
In the large-school girls race, New Glarus-Monticello finished sixth of 16 teams. The Knights, ranked No. 4 in Division 2, were led by sophomore Molly Olson. Monroe took 10th, with all five of its scorers as underclassmen.
Tre Dammen ran a sub 17-minute time to pace Monroe. The Hounds, ranked No. 15 in Division 2, finished ninth of 20 teams. With 570 points, New-Glarus Monticello took 19th.
