SPRING GREEN — Sugar River wasted no time dispensing River Valley in a nonconference game April 29.
The Raiders opened the scoring just 3:30 into the game as Francesca Schiro put the ball into the back of the net. It was the first of six first-half goals in the 10-0 Raiders win.
Amanda Lettman scored Sugar River’s second goal in the 17th minute off a pass from Regyn Jelle, and Rylee Hubbard made it 3-0 in the 26th minute. Kallie Ace got in on the action in the 33rd minute, with Hubbard making it 5-0 just 90 seconds later off passes from Julia McNamar and Paige Leonard. Schiro added her second goal of the game in the 41st minute.
After halftime, the Raiders didn’t slow down. Lettman added her second goal off a pass from Karstyn Rossing less than three minutes into the frame. A minute later, Ellawyn Fong scored her first goal of the season. Leonard scored off a pass from Rossing in the 57th minute, and then Rossing finished her strong night on the pitch with a goal in the 66th minute. The game was then called-off early for the 10-goal mercy rule.
Sugar River’s Rachael Heittola was unchecked in goal, while the Raiders put 24 shots on goal offensively.
The Raiders (10-1-2, 3-0 Capitol) have 11 shutouts in 13 games this season, including 10 games in a row.
Sugar River is ranked No. 6 overall in the latest Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association Division 3 poll, up from No. 8 a week ago. The Raiders tied McFarland (No. 5) the week before and lost their only game of the season in the opener to now-No. 3 Edgewood.
