BELLEVILLE — In a battle of ranked opponents, Sugar River fell 4-3 to Wisconsin Dells on Saturday, Sept. 23. The two teams exchanged goals back and forth before Edwin Rivas’ game-winning goal in the 76th minute.

Aiden Hatleberg led the Raiders with two goals. Brycen Teasdale had the third. Clayton Streiff stopped four of seven shots on goal, giving up three. 

The loss was just the second of the season for Sugar River, who is ranked No. 3 in Division 3. Meanwhile, Wisconsin Dells, ranked No. 7 in Division 3, improves to 11-0-1. 

Earlier in the week, Sugar River extended its lead in the Capitol Conference with a 9-2 win over Columbus. Hatleberg, who leads the Raiders with 25 goals, added four to his total. Drew Brueggemann was a goal shy of a hat trick with three. The remaining three goals came from Dylan Brooks, Tikeh Tazeh and Jacob Jensen-Moyer. 

Streiff played 65 minutes in net and stopped the only shot on goal he saw. Cayden Betts played the remaining 15 minutes letting up two goals on four shots.

In other local soccer, Monroe drew with Jefferson 1-1. Brock Brandli scored the Cheesemakers’ goal.
