MONROE — The Cheesemakers dropped two more games over the holiday break, falling to 0-9 on the season. Monroe fell 74-35 at Platteville Dec. 29, and two days later lost to Freeport in the annual Snack Bowl 65-55.

In the loss to Platteville, Taylor Jacobson led Monroe with 14 points, while Sophie Golembiewski added eight. Lizzie Poller and Camryn Nies each had 20 points for the Hillmen.

Platteville led 44-13 at halftime.

Against Freeport, Monroe started the game on a 5-0 run but went into halftime trailing 27-18.

Jaliyah Young led the Pretzels with 22 points and teammate Alexis Lacy added 14.

Monroe was led in scoring by Sloane Ambrose, who had 18 points despite picking up three fouls in the first half. Sydnee Conway also scored in double figures for the Cheesemakers with 13 points. Eight Monroe players scored.

New Glarus wins Dodgeville Tournament

DODGEVILLE — The Glarner Knights defeated Dodgeville and Jefferson to win the title at the Dodgeville Tournament, held Dec. 28-29.

Against Dodgeville in the championship, the Knights jumped out to a 34-15 lead by halftime. The final score was 62-43.

Lindsey Schadewalt led all scorers with 23 points for New Glarus, while Alex Atwell and Grace Nommensen each added 10 points. The Knights were 21 of 25 from the free throw line to seal the deal.

New Glarus defeated Jefferson 33-45 in the semifinal Dec. 27.


No. 4 Brodhead swept at Evansville Tournament

EVANSVILLE — The Cardinals lost two games by a combined five points at the high-caliber Evansville Tournament Dec. 29-30.

In the opener, Brodhead lost to Belleville 54-52. The next day against top-ranked Mineral Point, the Cardinals lost 47-44.

Abbie Dix led Brodhead with 18 points against Mineral Point, while Addie Yates added 12. Mallory Lindsey finished with 15 for the Pointers, with teammate Blair Watters chipping in with 14 points and eight rebounds.

Belleville’s Ava Foley scored 15 points against the Cardinals, while Maddi DeSmet added 13. Callie Smith and Alyssa Caskey each scored eight points for the Wildcats, with Smith grabbing 16 rebounds. Onnikah Oliver led Brodhead with 20 points, including shooting 6-for-10 from the 3-point line. Dix had jut six points, but pulled in 12 rebounds. Yates had six points and 10 boards, while Kiarra Moe added 14 points and six rebounds before fouling out.

Belleville blew out Evansville in the second half to win 64-44 in their Dec. 30 matchup. Foley scored 25 and grabbed 13 rebounds. Smith had eight points and 14 boards, while Mickey Stampfl added 11 points and eight rebounds.


Albany 64, Parkview 21

ALBANY — The Comets dominated the Vikings from the start. By halftime, Albany led Parkview in their nonconference game 33-11. 

Brianna Dahl led all scorers with 16 points, while Gracie Freitag added 12. Nine Comets scored in all, with eight scoring five or more points. 

Jenna Olin led Parkview with 11 points.


Juda 0-2 at North Crawford Tournament

NORTH CRAWFORD — Juda lost to North Crawford 46-39 on Dec. 28, then fell to River Ridge the next day 48-14.

Anna Skoumal scored eight points against River Ridge, including six in the first half as the Panthers fell behind 24-8. Against North Crawford, Skoumal had 12, while Libby Jordan led the way for Juda with 15, which included three 3-pointers.


Potosi-Cassville 56, Argyle 52

ARGYLE — The Orioles let a two-point halftime lead slip away in a nonconference game against Potosi-Cassville Dec. 29.

Grace Ganshert had a double-double for Argyle, scoring 20 points while grabbing 10 rebounds. She also had six assists and six steals. Maggie Godfrey added 18 points, eight rebounds and five steals. Chesney Leigh tallied five steals.

The Orioles turned the ball over 25 times and shot just 1-for-9 from beyond the arc. 


Black Hawk 53, Warren 28

SOUTH WAYNE — Raylin Peterson and Tara Wellnitz each scored 16 points for Black Hawk, which jumped out to a 20-point halftime lead and never let up in the second half.

Maddy Lange added 10 points for the home team, which shot just 2 of 16 from deep but pulled in 25 rebounds and had 10 steals.
