MONROE — The WIAA held its boys basketball regional semifinals and finals in playoff basketball March 1-2.


Regional Semifinals, March 1

WIAA Division 4

Belleville 71, Brodhead 59

BELLEVILLE — Royce Clark scored 20 points, Austin Fahey had 15 and Jaydon Winkers 12 as the Wildcats upended the Cardinals.

Belleville (11-11) went into a halftime lead 35-31, but took control of the game in the second half.

Dawson McGinty capped his career with a 26-point performance for Brodhead (6-18). Cade Walker had 14 points and Cody Malcook finished with eight.

The next night in the regional final, Belleville, give a No. 2-seed in an otherwise weak half-sectional, defeated Cambridge by a score of 57-50. The Wildcats and Blue Jays (6-19) had split the regular season series.

Belleville advances to the sectional semifinal, where the Wildcats will play Orfordville Parkview (17-6) March 7 at Oconomowoc. The winner will get either New Glarus (22-2) or Fennimore (20-4).

WIAA Division 5

Randolph 65, Monticello 37

RANDOLPH — The top-ranked Rockets jumped out to a 40-19 lead at halftime to bury the Ponies.

Peter Gustafson scored 18 to lead Monticello (13-11), while Reece Rufer had 10. The Ponies failed to hit a 3-pointer and went just 11-for-22 from the charity stripe.


Pecatonica 65, Fall River 50

BLANCHARDVILLE — Vikings senior Jaden Hendrickson scored 20 points, with 15 coming in the second half. Teammate Zack Eaton finished with 12 points, Colton Schraepfer had 11, Carter Ruegsegger 10 and Everett Johnson eight.

Pecatonica led 31-20 at halftime. Hendrickson was 7-7 from the free throw line in the second half, and Eaton scored 10 of his points in the same frame. The Vikings hit five 3-pointers in the game.


Rio 76, Black Hawk 65

RIO — The Warriors saw their season come to close in the regional semifinal and finish with a final record of 11-12.


Regional Finals, March 2

Randolph 56, Pecatonica 39

RANDOLPH — The Vikings finished their season with an 18-7 record. 

Pecatonica led the unbeaten and No. 1-ranked Rockets by three points at halftime.

Randolph (24-0) opened the second half on a 14-4 run to take the lead. The Rockets outscored Pecatonica 37-17 in the second half to seal the win.
