POTOSI — The Redbirds suffered through a dreadful second inning and lost to Potosi in a nonconference game April 13, 12-0.
The Chieftains scored nine runs in the bottom of the second to take a commanding 10-0 lead.
After getting two of the first three batters out, pitcher Kaylyn McGuire ran into trouble, allowing a hit and three walks to the next four batters. Alyssa Tuescher took over on the mound in relief, but failed to get the next six batters out. Ten straight batters would ultimately reach base in the frame before Tuescher struck out Potosi’s Avarie Breitsprecker.
Potosi would add another two in the fourth.
McGuire allowed six runs — just two earned — in 1.2 innings with four walks and two strikeouts. Tuescher struck out one and allowed four hits and three walks with six earned runs. Taylor Crist relieved for the final two outs in the bottom of the fourth.
At the plate, Chloe Muhlstein and Crist collected the Redbirds’ only hits.
