LODI — New Glarus took third in the first Capitol Conference mini-meet of the year via tiebreaker. The Glarner Knights tied with Cambridge with a 178 — two strokes behind champion Columbus — but came up short when the fifth-golfer tiebreaker was put into effect.

Lakeside Lutheran finished fourth, Lodi fifth, Belleville-Monticello sixth with Lake Mills, Luther Prep and Wisconsin Heights going 7-8-9.

Belleville-Monticello’s Peter Gustafson’s 42 was tied for third on the day, five strokes back of medalist Lukas Heckmann of Lakeside Lutheran. New Glarus senior Matt Hach was a stroke back, finishing with a 43.

Jacob Krantz and Jared Martinson each shot 44s for the Knights, while Ty Ready had a 47.

“The weather wasn’t ideal, (but) I’m proud of the way the guys played,” New Glarus coach Jonathan Goodness said.

Jakson Trainor shot a 47 for Belleville-Monticello. Teammates Hunter Olson and Logan Niesen both shot 54.
