The WIAA boys basketball playoffs continued Friday night with seven local teams in action. Just three are moving on. Regional final games will take place at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 2. Full recaps of all area games will be available in the Wednesday, March 6 edition of the Monroe Times.

Division 2

Mount Horeb 65, Monroe 49

The Cheesemakers (13-11) were outmatch against one of the state's top-ranked teams. The top-seeded Vikings (20-3) started the second half shooting 7-for-7 with four 3-pointers to pull away and advance to the regional final.

Monroe senior Michael Lange hit five 3-pointers and led the Cheesemakers with 15 points. Senior teammate Kade King had 12 points.

Division 4

Darlington 55, Aquinas 42

The top-seeded Redbirds (20-2) took care of their La Crosse travelers and advance to the regional final where they will host Fennimore, which toppled Wisconsin Heights 81-76.

Darlington beat Fennimore (19-4) twice already this year. The Redbirds lost just twice in the regular season, the first of which was to Heights (16-7).

New Glarus 84, Watertown Luther Prep 47

The Glarner Knights (21-2) got 42 points from senior Jaden Kreklow and advance to face Mineral Point (17-6) in the regional final at home.

Midway through the season, New Glarus lost to Mineral Point on their home court. The Pointers have a slightly different roster, with two of their starters in that game - one of which a leading scorer - no longer with the program.

Belleville 71, Brodhead 59

The Cardinals (6-18) gave the Wildcats all they could handle. Belleville (10-11), two games below .500 entering the tournament, was given the No. 2 seed in the sectional seeding meeting.

The Wildcats will host Cambridge (6-18), which knocked off No. 3 seed Markesan (10-12) in the regional final.

Division 5

Randolph 65, Monticello 37

The top-ranked Randolph (23-0) jumped out to a 40-19 lead at the half and the Ponies (13-11) couldn't recover. Peter Gustafson scored 18 to lead Monticello, which went without a 3-pointer and finished the game shooting 11 of 22 from the charity stripe.

Pecatonica 65, Fall River 50

The Vikings (18-6) closed out the fifth-seeded Pirates (14-10) in the second half.

Pecatonica advances to the regional final where unbeaten Randolph awaits.

Rio 76, Black Hawk 65

The Warriors (11-12) had a late second half push, but the Rio Vikings (20-4) held it together long enough to end Black Hawk's season.
