The Cheesemakers are scheduled to play at Fort Atkinson May 10, and could pick up nonconference games for May 11 and May 13 before closing out the regular season with a game at Edgewood May 14 and a doubleheader at Watertown May 16.

Monroe leads the Badger Conference with a 7-0 record, one game ahead of Watertown (6-1). Edgewood (5-4), Milton (5-5) and Fort Atkinson (4-4) all sit on the periphery of conference title contention.

Darlington 11, Pecatonica 8

DARLINGTON — The Redbirds picked up their first win of the season May 3 with a victory over Pecatonica in a nonconference game.

The win didn’t come easily, however, as Darlington needed to rally in the late innings.

Trailing 2-1 after the second, the Vikings busted out a 7-run fourth inning to take an 8-2 advantage.

After loading the bases with no one out, Pecatonica tied the game on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Alexia Knutson. Sam Ihm made it 3-2 with a single to left and Nivaeh Gross walked with the bases loaded and two outs to extend the lead to 4-2. Abby Loomis then blooped a ball to first that was dropped, allowing two runs to score. Tessa Green, who led off the inning with a single, doubled home Gross and Loomis to cap the big inning.

However, it was the last time Pecatonica would score.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Redbirds plated four runs to make it 8-6. Darlington added five more runs in the sixth, including back-to-back-to-back RBI singles with two outs by Taylor Crist, Kennedy Wagner and Lauren Sturtz.

Alyssa Tuescher got the win on the mound, throwing 3.2 innings and allowing eight runs (four earned) on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Katelyn McGuire pitched the final 3.1 innings of relief, striking out four and allowing just one hit. Tuescher was 4 for 4 at the plate with three runs and three RBIs, while Crist was 3 for 4 with three RBIs. All 11 of Darlington’s hits were singles.

Tessa Green pitched for Pecatonica, allowing 11 runs — just three earned — on 11 hits, four walks and a hit batter. She struck out seven. At the dish, Green was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Gross was 1 for 2 with two walks.
