SUN PRAIRIE — Check another title off the list for Monroe’s No. 1 doubles partners Wes Saunders and Ryan Mathiason. After winning the Rock Valley Conference tournament May 16, the pair earned a 1-seed in the sectional tournament, where they went 3-0 to claim the sectional title on May 22.
Matthew Setterstrom was the only other Cheesemaker to qualify for sectionals. As a 3-seed, he defeated 6-seed Carson Buckman of Janesville Craig 6-0, 6-3. He then fell to Nathaniel Posset of Monona Grove 6-4, 6-1.
Outside of No. 2 singles Louis Armstrong, Monroe won its opening matches and lost in the second round.
Saunders and Mathiason will play in the WIAA Division 1 boys tennis state individual championships May 30-June 1 at Nielsen Stadium in Madison. At press time May 23, brackets had not been updated.
