Monroe among teams advancing to sectionals

LAKE GENEVA — Monroe and Monticello-Belleville are moving on in the WIAA Division 2 golf postseason. The two programs finished in the top four of the Big Foot Regional held May 21 at Grand Geneva Highlands.

Edgerton took the team crown with a 314, while Monroe (375) was second, Clinton (381) third and Monticello-Belleville (388) fourth. Brodhead (407) was the fifth-place team and missed on advancing.

Peter Gustafson of Monticello-Belleville was fourth overall, carding a 12-over-par 83. Monroe’s Jack Rogerson (85) was fifth, and teammate Conner Allen (88) was eighth.

Other Monroe scores include Noah Becker (94) finishing 12th, Stewart Sathoff (108) 25th and Bryce Winters (125) 39th. Monticello-Belleville’s Jakson Trainor (93) was 11th, with teammate Logan Niesen (105) and Jaxson Pier (107) also shooting scorable rounds. 

Brodhead’s Dayton Oliver (90) and Derrick Oborne (100) each advanced as individuals.

Edgerton had the top three individual scores.

Monroe, Monticello-Belleville, Oliver and Oborne all advance to the May 28 sectional at Prairie du Chien Country Club. The top two teams advance to the state meet, as do the top two individuals from a non-qualifying team. The state championship will be held June 3-4 at University Ridge in Madison.


Division 3 Regional

MINERAL POINT — New Glarus and Argyle-Pecatonica are moving on to sectionals after finishing second and third at the Dodge Point Country Club regional May 21.

Mineral Point (356) was first overall, with New Glarus (370) taking second and Argyle-Pecatonica (374) edging Lancaster by a stroke for third place. Darlington (430) was sixth.

Mineral Point’s Simon Mitchell shot a 2-over-par to earn medalist honors.

Argyle-Pecatonica’s Noah Krahenbuhl (87) was sixth overall, with teammate Zack Eaton (94) finishing tied with Darlington’s Cody Crist for eighth. Ben Figi (95) and Jeff Saether (98) also had scoring rounds for Argyle-Pecatonica.

Crist was one of the four individual qualifiers to advance to sectionals.

New Glarus was led by Matt Hach’s 81, which was third overall. Freshman Zak Arnett and senior Jacob Krantz each carded a 95, tying for 10th. Jared Martinson finished with a 99.
