MONROE — The Wisconsin Football Coaches Association recently released its Hall of Fame Class of 2025 list, and Black Hawk’s Cory Milz and Brodhead-Juda’s Jim Matthys were honored.

“I’m humbled for sure,” Milz said. “When you think of the WFCA Hall of Fame and all the great coaches and people, to be included in that list of esteemed people is an honor.”

In 18 years as a coach for Black Hawk — and the co-op with Warren that began in 2019 — Milz compiled a 140-60 record with three gold balls in four trips to Camp Randall. He also had the opportunity to coach all three of his sons — Brody, Cayden and Lucas.

Although honored by the selection, Milz was quick to credit 2000 Hall of Fame inductee Dennis Murphy for building up the program. Milz was just the second coach in program history after Murphy.

“It’s a milestone for the program and community,” Milz said. “It’s a testament to the culture that Dennis established. We then coached his players’ sons and nephews.”

Likewise, Matthys was honored by the selection and credited the Brodhead and Juda communities.

“It’s humbling,” Matthys said. “It’s one of those awards that reflects players and the coaching staff and the community with all of its support.”

Matthys coached the Cardinals for 27 years with a three-year hiatus before returning in 2016. In that time, he compiled a 119-58 record with two trips to the state tournament.

Matthys joins three other Brodhead-Juda coaches in the Hall of Fame, including Gary Larsen (2002), Jeff Jubie (2012) and William Prochnow (2013).

Although Matthys retired from coaching following the 2023 season, his last hurrah will be coaching his son Blake in the All-Star Games July 20 in Oshkosh.
