LAKE MILLS — Alexis Herbst’s RBI single was the only score for Monroe in a 5-1 loss to Lake Mills in a WIAA Division 2 regional championship game May 23. The Cheesemakers struggled to put a bat on the ball and reach base, collecting just three hits and striking out nine times.

Sophie Golembiewski, Chesney Slotten and Herbst tallied hits. Katrina Sathoff was the only other base runner, reaching via walk. Kaegann Paulson suffered the loss, giving up one earned run on seven hits. She struck out one and walked three.

Monroe concludes its season with an 18-10 record, finishing second in the Rock Valley-Valley behind Jefferson.
