Lady Cheese lose high-scoring affair

Chesney Slotten drove in four runs for Monroe in its 11-9 loss to Fort Atkinson on Thursday, April 6.

FORT ATKINSON — Despite outhitting the Blackhawks 11-5, Monroe dropped its first conference game of the season to Fort Atkinson 11-9 on Thursday, April 6.

Chesney Slotten dominated at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a homerun and double. She collected four RBIs, scored two runs and walked. Kaegann Paulson, Katrina Sathoff and Sophie Golembiewski also had multiple-hit games. 

Monroe’s pitching staff had an off day, collectively walking 11 batters while striking out three. Golembiewski suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs in one inning pitched. Paulson started the game and went four innings. She gave up five earned runs on four hits. 


BRODHEAD 7, RIVER VALLEY 0

BRODHEAD — The Cardinals picked up a pair of wins on Thursday, April 6 and Friday, April 7.

Alexis Kammerer had the hot bat in game one, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and two RBIs. The bottom of the lineup had two of the Cardinals’ five hits, while the top half of the lineup scored three of the five runs. Ava Risum threw a complete game, giving up just one earned run on three hits. She struck out 13 and walked just one.

Mckenna Young contributed both offensively and defensively to Brodhead’s third shutout of the early season, going 4-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored and striking out 15 batters. She was a triple away from hitting for the cycle. Risum and Taetum Hoesly recorded three hits each, while Kammerer added another two hits. 


JUDA-ALBANY 12, RIVER RIDGE 0

PATCH GROVE — After two games riddled with errors, the Panthers played cleanly to earn their first win of the season over the Timberwolves on Thursday, April 6.

Emerson Briggs had a day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored, two RBIs and four stolen bases. Myah Johnson and Avary Briggs also tallied three hits, while Alana Durtschi, Gracie Freitag and Briliey Swedlund drove in two runs apiece. Avary Briggs pitched all six innings to earn the win. She gave up just one hit and struck out 11. 


PECATONICA 11, BENTON-SHULLSBURG 7

BENTON — With six runs in the last three innings, the Vikings rolled the Zephyrs on Thursday, April 6. Pecatonica overcame six errors with its 11 hits to come out on top.

Chloe Schraepfer helped her own cause, going 4-for-4 at the plate with a double and three RBIs. On the mound, she pitched four innings, giving up four earned runs on six hits. She struck out seven and walked just one to earn the win.

Maddie Hirsch accounted for another three hits. She drove in two runs while scoring four and stole three bases. Diana Hendrickson pitched three innings of relief, giving up one earned run on three hits. She struck out two and gave no free passes. 


SOUTHWESTERN 11, DARLINGTON 2

HAZEL GREEN — Although the Redbirds had a 2-run lead after two innings, the Wildcats put a 10-spot up in the bottom of the second to seal the win on Thursday, April 6.

Sophie Wiegel had two of Darlington’s eight hits, both of which were singles. Alexis Bridges had the only extra-base hit with a double.

Although Sophie Wiegel had a good day at the plate, she suffered the loss in the circle. Sophie Wiegel threw 1 2/3 inning, giving up three earned runs on four hits. She struck out one but walked four. Kylie Butler finished the second inning, while Sydney Wiegel pitched the last four innings.


HIGHLAND 7, ARGYLE 1

ARGYLE — Highland’s Lilly Micitek recorded as many hits as Argyle’s entire lineup in the Cardinals’ nonconference win on Thursday, April 6.

The Orioles’ four hits came from Hannah Gierhart, Sam Kammes, Lexi Wonders and Sara Helfvogt. Mya McNett threw all seven innings, giving up six earned runs on nine hits. She struck out five and walked two.


BELMONT 6, MNG 0

MONTICELLO — The Braves capped the game with three-run innings to come out on top of the Ponies on Thursday, April 6.

Monticello-New Glarus mustered three hits from Veronica Tollakson, Grace Seffrood and Melanie Fink. Molly Olson suffered the loss in the circle. All six runs were earned, as the Braves pounded out 12 hits. Olson struck out two batters while walking two.
