baseball

ORFORDVILLE — The Glarner Knights saw their season come to a painful end May 28, losing to Parkview 3-2.

Nathan Streiff had two of the four New Glarus hits in the game. The Knights didn’t walk at the plate and struck out 11 times. Streiff and Cooper Dreyfus each doubled for New Glarus.

On the mound, Peyton Mendleski went 4.1 innings and allowed two runs — one earned — on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Carter Siegenthaler pitched the final 1.2 innings and allowed an earned run on a hit, a walk and two strikeouts. Mendleski and Siegenthaler each hit a batter as well.

Parkview took a 1-0 lead on a double in the bottom of the first and made it 2-0 on an RBI single in the second inning. New Glarus plated its first run in the top of the fourth when Streiff’s 2-out double to left scored Reeve Binger from first. Parkview made it 3-1 after getting a 2-out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.

In the top of the seventh, Ben Melvin led off with a single to center for New Glarus and advanced to third on a 1-out base knock by Streiff. With two outs, Carter Siegenthaler hit a ball to left that was misplayed, allowing Melvin to score and Streiff to move to third and Siegenthaler to second. Dreyfuss, the Glarner Knights’ leadoff man, struck out swinging to end the game with the tying run 90 feet away.
