JUDA — The Panthers picked up win No. 4 this season under first-year head coach Austin Pax with a 48-39 nonconference victory over Madison Country Day on Jan. 4. The program had just five wins combined over the previous three seasons.
Jackie Nusbaum led Juda with 12 points, while Anna Skoumal had 10. In all, nine Panthers scored.
Juda took advantage of 45 Country Day turnovers, including 22 steals. Neither team shot well from the free throw line, as Juda finished 9-for-25 and Country Day was just 5 of 20 as a team.
Only four players scored from Country Day, with just two playing as a major factor: Ella Whiffen scored 20 points and Ella Whinney added 13. The pair also combined for 17 turnovers.
New Glarus 48, Platteville 37
NEW GLARUS – Balanced scoring led the way as the Glarner Knights picked up a key victory over Platteville in a nonconference game Jan. 4.
Lindsey Schadewalt led New Glarus with 14 points, while Alex Atwell added 11 and Grace Nommensen 10. Seven Knights scored in all.
Camryn Nies (17) was the lone Platteville player to score in double figures.
McFarland 71, Monroe 25
MCFARLAND – The Cheesemakers dropped to 0-10 on the season with a nonconference loss to McFarland (8-3) on Jan. 4. The host Spartans jumped out to a 42-13 lead at halftime.
Sophomore Teagan Mallegni, the Spartan’s top player that has scholarship offers from eight schools and interest from 17 others, led the way with 21 points and 10 rebounds. McFarland had four players score in double figures.
Monroe was set to host Edgewood Jan. 7, then play in the Badger Challenge Jan. 15 before hosting Baraboo Jan. 18.
Lancaster 68, Argyle 32
LANCASTER – The Orioles struggled from the opening tip, losing to the Flying Arrows in a nonconference game Jan. 3.
Grace Ganshert had 12 points and nine rebounds to lead Argyle, while teammate Maggie Godfrey added 11 points. The Orioles were just 1-for-12 (8.3%) from deep and 10-for-28 in all from the field (26.3%).
