Fury can’t take advantage of opportunities in GB
Alyssa Knauf
Rock County Fury sophomore Alyssa Knauf wins a face-off against the Bay Area Ice Bears during their nonconference game Jan. 18. Rock County lost 4-1, with Knauf scoring the team’s lone goal in the second period.

GREEN BAY — The Fury gave up three first-period goals en route to a 4-1 loss to the Bay Area Ice Bears in a nonconference game Jan. 18.

Rock County fell behind just four minutes into the game on an unassisted goal by Kaylee Greenwood. Not 90 seconds later the Ice Bears made it 2-0. With less than six minutes to play in the opening frame, Josie Bender gave the home team a three-goal cushion.

Just 2:52 into the second period, Alyssa Knauf put the Fury on the board with a power play goal, with Haley Knauf and Presley Kovacevich assisting. Rock County couldn’t inch any closer, and midway through the third the Bears (8-8-3) made it 4-1.

Rock County outshot the Ice Bears 25-16 in the game, and had just two penalty minutes to Green Bay’s eight. But the Badger Conference leader couldn’t capitalize on the extra opportunities and fall to 11-6-2 on the season.

The next game for the Fury is scheduled for 1 p.m. Jan. 26 against Onalaska (8-9-1) at SLICE for Seniors Night, which will honor Monroe’s Cammi Ganshert and Milton’s Ella Silha.
