SPRING GREEN — At the Badger South Conference championship meet May 13 at House on the Rock Golf Course, Madison Edgewood took the team title with a 318.

Monroe shot a 411, finishing second to last. The Cheesemakers were without one of their top golfers, Noah Becker.

Connor Allen led the way for Monroe, carding an 84, which was good enough for seventh. Jack Rogerson shot an 87, taking 15th. The final three golfers for Monroe were all in triple digits and occupied three of the bottom five scores: Bryce Winters (113), Adam Buri (127) and Stewart Sathoff (136).

Edgewood’s James Gilmore and Oregon’s John Klus each finished with a 5-over-par 76, with Klus winning the tournament title in a scorecard playoff.

Edgewood won the regular season team title, winning all four conference mini meets. Oregon was second and Monona Grove third. Monroe was fifth.

Gilmore was the conference’s top scorer this year, winning two of the mini meets and taking second in another. Rogerson was 11th despite missing a match, and Becker was 12th while missing two matches.

SWAL

PLATTEVILLE — Argyle-Pecatonica finished second in the SWAL conference championship meet May 14 at Platteville Country Club. The Orioles shot a 380 as a team, with Mineral Point taking the team title with a 360. Barneveld (401) was third, Cuba City-Southwestern-Benton fourth (436), Fennimore fifth (452), Darlington sixth (458) and Iowa-Grant seventh (471).

Only 11 of the 33 golfers shot under 100, with four Argyle-Pecatonica shooters scoring in double digits.

Noah Krahenbuhl and Jeff Saether each carded 92s for Argyle-Pecatonica, which tied for third overall. Ben Figi shot a 97 and Zack Eaton had a 99.

Mineral Point’s Simon Mitchell was the meet medalist with an 81.

Darlington was led by Cody Crist, who shot 100. Cole Roelli had a 114, Atticus Stauffacher finished with a 121 and Michael Kendall carded a 123.

The SWAL all-conference team also came out, with Argyle-Pecatonica getting three golfers honored. Noah Krahenbuhl had the fifth-best season score, while Ben Figi was eighth. Eaton tied Barneveld’s Dayne Evans for the 10th-best mark, just ahead of Saether. Crist was ninth.

Capitol Conference

COTTAGE GROVE — New Glarus shot a 358 and Monticello-Belleville had a 371 at the Capitol Conference championship May 14 at The Oaks Golf Course. Cambridge won the nine-team tournament with a 316, edging Columbus by 10 strokes.

Peter Gustafson shot an 82 for Monticello-Belleville, the team’s high school. Jakson Trainor carded an 88 with Jaxson Pier shooting a 99 and Hunter Olson finishing at 102.

New Glarus senior Matt Hach had an 83, while Jared Martinson finished with an 89, Jacob Krantz a 91 and Ty Ready a 95.

“Matt played well. He eagled the par 5 No. 4,” New Glarus coach Jonathon Goodness said. “He struggled on the laast two holes with a pair of double bogeys. I know he and the rest of the team will bounce back and play well at regionals.”

Hach and Gustafson were named second-team all-conference. Lakeside Lutheran senior Lukas Heckmann was the league’s player of the year.

Regionals are set for May 21 at Dodge-Point Country Club in Dodgeville. Last season, the Knights caught fire and advanced to sectionals and then to state.

“We look forward to another playoff push to end the season,” Goodness said.

Rock Valley Mini Meet

JANESVILLE — Edgerton won the last conference meet of the season with a 155, beating out McFarland (163) for the title. Brodhead (215) was sixth in the 10-team tournament.
