Cheesemakers rally in the sixth
softball stock

MONROE — With a bye in the WIAA Division 2 tournament, Monroe picked up an extra regular-season game against Dodgeville May 17. Trailing 4-3 in the sixth, the Cheesemakers rallied for three runs and the victory.

Alexis Herbst led off with a double, and Katrina Sathoff drove her hole with an RBI single to center. Sophie Golembiewski then homered with two outs, hitting in what proved to be the game-winning run.

Golembiewski finished 2-for-3 with a double, homerun, three RBIs, a walk and one run scored. She was one of four players to have a multiple-hit game, including Kaegann Paulson, Olivia Feller and Sathoff.

Paulson pitched all seven innings in the win, giving up three earned runs on seven hits. She struck out six and walked three.


MINERAL POINT 5, JUDA-ALBANY 1

JUDA — Despite 11 hits, the Panthers couldn’t string them together in a nonconference loss to the Pointers, ranked No. 7 in Division 4.

Leadoff batter Avary Briggs was 3-for-4 to lead the pack. Alana Durtschi, Myah Johnson, Anna Bartels and Phoenix Homan tallied multiple-hit games, too. 

Briggs suffered the loss, giving up two earned runs on nine hits. She struck out six and walked one.
