MONROE — The Cheesemakers struggled again with a lopsided 11-2 loss against Sauk Prairie at SLICE Feb. 7.
Monroe took a brief 1-0 lead when Cole Buholzer scored just 1:08 into the game, with Nolan Bodenstein assisting. A little over two minutes later the Eagles were on the board, and with under six minutes left in the frame Sauk Prairie took the lead for good.
The Eagles led 3-1 at the first intermission, and 8-1 after two periods of play. Buholzer scored for a second time early in the third with Wyatt Janecke assisting, briefly making it 8-2.
Sauk Prairie outshot Monroe 49-13. Xander Obert had 38 saves in net for the Cheesemakers. Sauk Prairies Nick and Luke Mast each had hat tricks, with Luke Mast scoring five goals.
Monroe’s final home game of the season was Feb. 11 against DeForest. The Cheesemakers are at Brookfield for the regional opener Feb. 15.
Elsewhere on Feb. 9, the Rock County Fury girls hockey team lost to Arrowhead 4-2 in a nonconference game. The Fury close out the regular season Feb. 12 at Viroqua and travel to Stoughton Feb. 18 for the first round of the WIAA playoffs.
