BRODHEAD — The Rock Valley recently released its All-Conference selections, where nine total Brodhead and Monroe athletes earned spots in their respective divisions.

Senior Addison Yates led the five all-conference selections for Brodhead as the lone representative on the first team. She routinely led the Cardinals in kills and blocks.

Sophomore Allie Dahl and senior Jaelyn Hilliard made second-team all-conference. As an outside hitter, Dahl was relied upon for a significant number of kills, while defensive specialist Hilliard led the team in assists.

Makenna Schooff and Brenley Jones rounded out Brodhead’s all-conference selections, garnering honorable mention. The pair were key players to the offense.

On Monday, Oct. 30, Brodhead also presented team awards, as voted on by the team. Paityn Kail earned Scout team Player, Brynn Riesterer received Most Improved Player and Hilliard garnered MVP.

Brodhead concluded its 23-19 season in a WIAA Division 3 regional final against Cuba City. The Cubans won in three sets and qualified for the state tournament with wins over Mineral Point and Aquinas in sectionals. The Cardinals graduate five seniors in Hilliard, Yates, Kail, Jones and Jerrica Schwartz.

“Even though our record may not be flashy, this team’s ability to overcome adversity and play many different positions is admirable,” Brodhead head coach Erin Kammerer said. “Every player was asked to leave their comfort zone and fill a role that benefited the team.”

Monroe had four players make the Valley Division’s all-conference. Seniors Addison Bartholf and Courtney Hartwig nabbed second team honors. Bartholf consistently led the team in assists and aces, while Hartwig led in kills.

Senior Chloe Fry and junior Sophie Golembiewski received honorable mention recognition as right side hitters.

Monroe concluded its season 5-18, winning four of its last seven matches. For the first time since 2009, the Cheesemakers won two conference matches.
