BLANCHARDVILLE — In a battle of ranked Six Rivers teams, No. 14 Belmont bested No. 10 Pecatonica 8-4 on May 1. Both teams lead their respective divisions in the league.
“They really hit the ball up and down their lineup with 14 hits, and all but one hitter had hits,” Pecatonica head coach Jim Strommen said. “Their pitcher, Ruiz, kept us off balance during the game and really battled on the mound. Give credit where credit is due, Belmont was the superior team today.”
Jameson Johnson led the Vikings, going 2-for-3 with a walk. He suffered the loss on the bump, giving up five earned runs on nine hits. Johnson struck out seven and walked two.
PECATONICA 5, BARNEVELD 1
BARNEVELD — The Vikings control their own destiny in the Six Rivers East completing the season sweep of the Eagles on April 30.
Max Steele paced Pecatonica, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Tyler McKeon and Carson Kurschner also tallied multiple-hit games. McKeon picked up the win, giving up one unearned run on six hits. He struck out nine and walked two.
BARNEVELD 19, ARGYLE-BLACK HAWK 0
ARGYLE — The Eagles jumped on the Orioles relief pitching, scoring 17 runs in two innings en route to a league victory on April 29.
Max Godfrey started on the bump for ABH and gave up just two runs on six hits. He struck out 10 and exited the game in the fifth. Will Helfvogt went 3-for-3 at the plate, accounting for all but two of the team’s hits.
WISCONSIN HEIGHTS 2, MONTICELLO-ALBANY 0
MONTICELLO — The Ponies went hit for hit with the Vanguards in a nonconference game on April 29, but they left 10 runners on base in the shutout loss.
Tyler Pitman went 2-for-3 to lead the offense. Cody Pryce was the pitcher of record, giving up one earned run on four hits. He struck out three and walked one.
BRODHEAD-JUDA 5, DODGEVILLE 4
BRODHEAD — Gabe Bockhop drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth as the Cardinals defeated Dodgeville in a nonconference game April 29. Evan Senobe had led off the inning with a double.
At leadoff, Senobe went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk. Clayton Elliott and Ryan Searls drew two walks each. In fact, Brodhead-Juda recorded more walks than hits.
Sam Searls picked up the win, throwing four innings of one-hit ball. He struck out three and walked three.
BRODHEAD-JUDA 6, EVANSVILLE 5
BRODHEAD — Tyrin Foster lined a two-out RBI single to left in the bottom of the seventh, giving the Cardinals their second walk-off in as many days on April 30.
Sam Searls recorded a multiple hit game, batting in two runs. David Masloske also contributed to the offense, going 1-for-2 with a double, two RBIs, two runs scored and two walks. Relief pitcher Senobe got the win, giving up one unearned run in 3 1/3 innings. He struck out nine and walked three.
JEFFERSON 5, MONROE 1
MONROE — The Cheesemaker pitching staff kept the No. 7 Eagles at bay but their offense couldn’t keep pace in a RVC loss on April 30.
Ethan Rosenstiel thwarted Jefferson’s no-hit bid with an RBI single in the first, giving Monroe its only lead of the night. Ashton Hale walked and Keegan Dahmen reached on an error as the only other Cheesemakers to reach base.
Dahmen suffered the loss, giving up two unearned runs on four hits. He struck out four and walked three.
PRAIRIE DU CHIEN 10, DARLINGTON 0
DARLINGTON — Just two hits and four errors were the Redbirds’ downfall in a nonconference game on April 29.
Tye Crist and Maddox Goebel recorded the only hits. Crist reached twice, also drawing a walk. Carson Mosley suffered the loss, giving up six runs on 11 hits. He struck out two and didn’t issue a walk.
The Redbirds rebounded to defeat Boscobel on April 30.
In other local baseball, New Glarus and Cambridge were tied at three in the eighth inning when the game was suspended due to lack of lights. The remainder of the game was played before Thursday’s contest in New Glarus.
