MONROE — The Alpine Curling Club hosted its 56th bonspiel Jan. 26-28, which included 12 teams from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois and Missouri.  In addition, the club celebrated its 60th anniversary.

In order to fill the 12-team bracket, the club put together a last-minute team nicknamed the All Stars, which included Curt Wyttenbach, Laura Doll, Paul Morris and Audrey Liimatainen. Against all odds, the All Stars won the event. The Blackhawk Curling Club out of Janesville were second event winners, Windy City Curling Club from Chicago were third event winners and Racine Curling Club were fourth event winners.

The Alpine Curling Club hosts two bonspiels each year — a men’s bonspiel in December and mixed in January. For kids under 18 who are interested in curling, the club also offers a junior league. Registration is available online at https://alpine.curling.club/18493-2/.

For those that have no experience curling, the club offers two Learn to Curl events a year. Each session, participants learn the basics of curling form, rules, safety and etiquette. No equipment is required. Following the event, the club offers a four-week instructional class for members that want to improve their skills.
