4 Redbirds recognized

DARLINGTON — The SWAL recently released its girls basketball all-conference lists, and four Redbirds were recognized.

Seniors Aubrey McCarthy and Jaidyn Evenstad were selected to the all-conference first team. McCarthy averaged 8.9 ppg and led the team with 4.5 rpg. She added 47 steals. Evenstad averaged 6.2 ppg and 2.5 ppg. She led the team in assists, with 3.8 per game. 

Sophomores Maddie Gratz and Sadie Goebel received honorable mention all-conference. Gratz led the team in scoring with 12.6 ppg and shot 35% from beyond the arc (37-for-106). She was second on the team in rebounding with 4.7 rpg. Goebel also averaged double figures with 10.0 ppg, making 40 of 154 3-point attempts. 

Darlington finished 9-5 in the SWAL behind conference champions Cuba City (14-0) and Mineral Point (12-2). Cuba City’s Olivia Olson was named the Player of the Year, and the Cubans’ coach, Jason Derby, was named Coach of the Year.
