BARNEVELD — After a one-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Six Rivers All-Star Basketball Classic is set to return this summer with Barneveld High School scheduled to host the 15th-annual showcase of basketball talent on Friday, July 9.
The girls’ All-Star game will tip off at 6 p.m. and the boys’ game to follow at approximately 8 p.m. There will also be a special 3-point shooting contest held in between the games.
All proceeds from the free-will admission and other fund-raising efforts during the night go directly to the Madison Children’s Hospital in support of their events. Coaches, game personnel, referees and other participants donated their time to this event.
The Six Rivers All-Star Classic was held for the first time in 2006 as the result of a dream and hard work by retired Black Hawk boys’ basketball coach Jerry Mortimer, who designed the event and directed it until 2010. To date, the games have generated nearly $20,000 in donations.
The All-Star Classic features the top senior players from the Six Rivers Conference Western Division going head-to-head against the standouts from the Eastern Division in a game consisting of two 20-minute halves.
Belmont’s Kaleen McGettigan and Shullsburg’s Nathan Russell are set to lead this year’s West All-Star girls’ team against the East All-Stars, who will be led by Albany’s Derik Doescher and Black Hawk’s Michael Flanagan.
Area players scheduled to suit up for the West girls’ squad include Shullsburg’s Madison Russell, Peyton Doyle and Layla Alt, while leading the way for the East girls’ will be Black Hawk’s Bailey Butler, Kaylee Marty, Macie Stauffacher and Makayla Mau.
Other members of the West All-Star team include Potosi’s Lilly Post, Logan Hubbard, Anna Kartman and Sydney Fecht; and River Ridge’s Glenna Marshall.
Joining the East All-Stars will be Argyle’s Rachel Gilbertson; Pecatonica’s Emily Zimmerman; Barneveld’s Leah Marx and Jacey Spring; Juda’s Maddie Smith; and Monticello’s Mackie Errthum and Harley Disch.
The boys’ All-Star game has River Ridge coaches Tom Neises and Jim Wagner leading the West squad against Monticello coaches Mark Olson and Gabe Zielke and the East All-Stars.
Belmont’s Mitch Douglas will team with Shullsburg’s Brendan Kudronowicz, Chandler Kelly and Brandon Hoppman to lead the West All-Stars, which also includes Benton’s Nick Brant and Dominic Cummins; Highland’s Justin Miller and Issac Michel; River Ridge’s Ethan Hunt; Potosi’s Jack Kaiser; and Cassville’s Cameron Schmitz.
Black Hawk’s Clayton Stietz and Thatcher Schliem will lead the East All-Stars along with Argyle’s Clay Ritschard and Connor Carius; Pecatonica’s David Tisch; Albany’s Clay Hulbert; Barneveld’s Trendon Barsness; Juda’s Avery Sheaffer; and Monticello’s Owen Ace, Peter Gustafson, Tristin Flanagan and Rudy Wicker.
In the 14 years of the event, the West holds a 10-4 advantage over the East in the girls’ All-Star game, while the East boys hold a 10-4 all-time record over the West All-Stars.
The two leagues are tied 3-3 in the 3-Point Shooting Contest.
WBCA All-Star Games July 14-15
The Annual Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Senior Boys and Girls All-Star Games will be held July 14 and 15 at JustAGame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells.
Monroe’s Cade Meyer will play for the D2 White squad. Darlington’s Carter Lancaster and Cayden Rankin will play for the D4 White team.
Monticello’s Peter Gustafson will don the D5 Red jersey.
On the girls side, Monroe’s Megan Benzschawel will play for the D2 South team.
Jaylynn Benson of New Glarus will play for the D4 South squad.
Bailey Butler and Kaylee Marty of Black Hawk will team up one final time for the D5 South squad, joining Shullsburg’s Layla Alt.
The girls games will be played July 14, with the D5 game at 9 a.m., D4 at 10:45 a.m., D3 at 12:30 p.m., D2 at 2:15 p.m. and D1 at 4 p.m.
The boys games will be July 15, with divisions and time of games following suit.
