NEW GLARUS - A 1-yard touchdown run by Isaiah Butler with 35 seconds left in the fourth quarter won the game for Lakeside Lutheran against New Glarus-Monticello Friday, Sept. 6. A bad snap on a punt attempt by NG-M put Lakeside in the driver's seat, as they went on to run four plays for 44 yards in under two minutes for the game-winning score.

"Not getting that punt off killed us at the end," assistant coach Dean Reeson said. "It was just a high floater and he didn't get time to get it off. It just didn't work."

Jim Chenoweth carried the ball 17 times for 97 yards and Casey Sieverson added 49 yards on 12 carries for the Glarner Knights. NG-M did well on the ground, out-rushing Lakeside 241 yards to 142 yards.

New Glarus-Monticello (0-3) had a tough time through the air, however, with quarterback Gavin Binger going 1 for 8 for three yards and an interception, while Lakeside managed 104 yards on 8-16 passing with an interception by quarterback Luke Thiele. Lakeside also had the edge on first downs, 17 to 12.

Butler was the leading rusher for Lakeside with 79 yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns.

Turnovers proved to be the difference in the game, as NG-M lost two of three fumbles including the botched snap at the end of the game.

Reeson said the team can take some positives from the game, but the team needs to get better when they have the ball in scoring territory. "After the first two weeks, the boys really played well. We were inside the 10 twice and didn't get any points so that kind of hurt us," Reeson said.

"We just want to keep executing, keep improving. Nothing specific, just keep working on everything."
