Juda wins big; BH needs 2 OTs

JUDA - Juda coach Kyle Krueger loved the stifling defense his team played, which set the tone in the Panthers' 43-21 win over Johnson Creek Tuesday night.

Juda (1-2) limited Johnson Creek scoreless for almost 10 minutes and the Panthers built a 14-8 halftime lead.

"Any time you only give up 21 points, I think you can be pleased with the defense," Krueger said. "They brought it all night on defense."

The Panthers broke the game open by outscoring Johnson Creek, 19-5 in the third quarter.

Juda sophomore Joey Jordan scored a team-high 14 points for the Panthers and fellow sophomore Brandon Bauman scored nine points.

Junior Dylan Bauman and freshman Cody Suiter each added five points.

Black Hawk 60, Belmont 57, 2 OT

BELMONT - The Warriors remained unbeaten after pulling out a thrilling 60-57 double overtime win over Belmont Tuesday.

"Belmont is a strong team," Black Hawk coach Kyle Bille said. "I'm glad we competed the way we did."

Black Hawk (2-0) jumped out to a 16-11 lead, but the Braves came back and led 23-19 at halftime.

Belmont rallied and outscored the Warriors 15-11 in the fourth quarter to force the first overtime.

Black Hawk senior T.J. Adams scored 21 points, which included three 3-pointers and Cody Foster had 17 with three 3-pointers.

Sophomore Hayden Schliem scored 12 points. Black Hawk plays at Monticello Friday.

New Glarus 49, Lodi 41

NEW GLARUS - Two days removed from a comeback win over Monticello, the New Glarus boys basketball team Tuesday won its home opener 49-41 over Lodi.

The Glarner Knights (2-0) led 35-31 heading into the fourth quarter. New Glarus sophomore Tyler Kreklow scored a team-high 14 points, which included six of six free throws in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

New Glarus seniors Nick Stuessy and Ryan Bright each scored 10 points. Fellow senior Cameron Jeglum added nine.

Potosi 47, Albany 43

ALBANY - Inconsistent free throw shooting doomed the Comets in a 47-43 loss to Postosi Tuesday.

The Chieftans outscored the Comets 15-10 in the first quarter and built a 29-23 halftime lead. The Comets cut the deficit to three points by outscoring the Chieftans 12-8 in the third quarter.

Albany (0-2) trailed the Chieftans by one point with two minutes to go, but couldn't close out the game.

"We had opportunities," Albany coach Derik Doescher said. "We couldn't get over the hump."

The Comets shot eight of 20 from the free throw line in the game and three of 10 in the fourth quarter.

Albany senior Bryce Hulbert scored a team-high 16 points and junior Joshua Krueger added seven.
