JANESVILLE - The Monroe boys basketball team lost a season opener to Jane sville Craig 69-61 Thur-sday, Nov. 21.
The Cheese-makers led 32-28 at the half, but the Cougars outscored them 17-6 in the third quarter.
"We just gave up too many offensive rebounds in the second half," Monroe coach Pat Murphy said. "We gave up too many easy shots. I like the way we competed. We battled."
Monroe junior Kevin Noriega scored a team-high 21 points. Senior Charlie Kind had 10 points and senior Kylan Helmeid added nine. The Cheesemakers shot 20 of 30 from the free throw line. Senior Jake Hirsbrunner and junior Jake Flannery each fouled out.
"We got called on some charges late," Murphy said. "With the fouls it takes your aggression away. I like this team, but we to get used to playing varsity. If you don't rebound and defend at the varsity level it will be tough."
