WATERLOO - Curt Miller, Monroe's girls track coach, had a pleasant homecoming as the Cheesemakers won the Waterloo Invite Thursday.

Under the coaching of the former Waterloo native Monroe won five of the 18 events in the meet and outdistanced Mayville for the title 186-168.

The Cheesemakers won three of the four relays at the eight-team invite.

"It's always nice to go home and run well," Miller said. "Our goal for the meet was to load up the relays and get a good gauge of what our girls are able to do with our relays stacked."

The Cheesemakers' 400-meter relay team of Ty Gibson, Maria Eberle, Jess Miller and Jaclyn Ditter finished first with a time of 52 seconds.

Eberle and Ditter teamed with Brenna Bazley and Stephanie Wyss to win the 800 relay with a time of 1 minute, 50.7 seconds. The Cheesemakers' 3,200-relay team of Lizzy Dale, Tess Seichter, Tessa Frutiger and Wyss took first with a time of 10:06.8.

"Those three relays ran exceptionally well," Miller said.

Senior Laura Chopp won the pole vault (8 feet, 6 inches) and Jessica Leu finished first in the shot put (34-3 1/2).

Miller said that Chopp has been rushed the last few dual meets since the girls pole vault has been at the end of the meet. He's confident she will peak at the right time.

"Her bigger heights are still to come," Miller said of Chopp who has cleared 9-0 this year. "I can see her going 10-feet at the regional."
