Five wrestlers garner top six finishes

PRAIRIE DU SAC - Five area wrestlers placed in the top six at the Sauk Prairie Eagle Invitational on Saturday.

Pecatonica-Argyle sophomore Tristan Rosenstiel at 152 pounds finished fourth place to lead the Vikings. Sauk Prairie won the championship 288.5-268 over Mount Horeb-Barneveld. Sugar River finished 12th with 62 points and Pecatonica-Argyle took 14th (33).

Rosenstiel pinned Kiel's Jesus Sandoval in 2:56 and then edged Madison La Follette's Jeremy Johnson 7-5. River Valley's Seth Liegel pinned him in 44 seconds and he lost a third-place match to Hortonville's Nate Rynish 12-1.

Sugar River's Jack Nelson (195) and A.J. Halbach (220) each took fifth place. Nelson and Halbach each went 2-1 at the tournament. Nelson pinned Hortonville's J.D. Forsling in 4:14 to seal a fifth place finish. Halbach defeated Pecatonica-Argyle junior Lucas McKeon 5-3 for fifth place. McKeon finished sixth overall. Sugar River's Anthony Chiarello went 2-2 and took sixth place. He lost a fifth-place match 4-0 to Menomonie's Logan Skovbroten.



Cardinals go unbeaten

WHITEWATER - The Brodhead-Juda wrestling team went 5-0 at the Whitewater duals on Saturday.

The Cardinals defeated Whitewater 46-25 and rolled past Lakeside Lutheran 66-9. In the closest match for the Cardinals, they edged Waukesha South 40-31 and then knocked off Big Foot-Williams Bay 66-6. Brodhead-Juda had seven wrestlers go 4-0 on Saturday. The wrestlers who went unbeaten include sophomore Justin Sangermano (113), junior Jordan Kraak (138), sophomore Brady Colden (160), senior Hunter Colden (170), sophomore Gavin Baade (182), sophomore Stephen Voights (220) and sophomore heavyweight Logan Maurer. Junior Tyler Davis (195) finished 4-1.

Sangermano defeated Whitewater's Alberto Rodriguez 11-1 and Waukesha South's Brandon Mucci 11-6. He won two matches by forfeit. Kraak at 138 defeated Whitewater's Tyler Engel 5-2 and pinned Lakeside Lutheran's Kirkland Hill in 1:00. He defeated Waukesha South's Alex Sayles 9-1 and received a forfeit against Big Foot.

The Cardinals dominated the upper weight classes. At 170, Brady Colden pinned Whitewater's Mason Markiewicz in 3:01 and pinned Waukesha South's Eric Erhardt in 2:19. He also won two matches by forfeit. Brady's brother, Hunter Colden, ranked No. 1 at 182 in the Division 2 Wisconsin Wrestling Online poll, defeated Whitewater's Zach Miles 16-0 and pinned Lakeside Lutheran's Seth Schumacher. He pinned Waukesha South's Alec Rodriguez in 1:19 and won one match by forfeit.

Baade pinned Whitewater's Tommy DuVal in 2:28 and pinned Lakeside Lutheran's Spenser Jansen in 36 seconds. He pinned Waukesha South's Ulises Reyes in 3:34 and pinned Big Foot's Mason Dixon in 1:51. Voights pinned Whitewater's Daniel Soto in 4:42 and pinned Lakeside Lutheran's Brandon Swenson in 1:10. He slipped past Waukesha South's Mitch Dennert 5-2 and Big Foot's Will Utesch 5-2. Maurer, ranked No. 4, pinned Whitewater's Kyle Hough in 50 seconds and pinned Lakeside Lutheran's Dalton Egli in 27 seconds. He pinned Waukesha South's Brock Milkent in 3:48 and pinned Big Foot's Austin Snudden in 37 seconds.
