WHITEWATER - Monroe's No. 1 doubles team of senior Brooke McBain and sophomore Ellie Grossen finished in third place at Wednesday's WIAA Division 2 Whitewater Sectional.
The duo opened the sectional with a win over Lodi's Nicole DeGroff and Christina Plunckett 6-1, 6-0. In the second round, Madison Edgewood's Rachel Wabers and Lauren Keller won 6-2, 6-2. In the third-place match, the two Cheesemakers knocked off Big Foot-Williams Bay's Anne McGrail and Lauren Speare 6-2, 7-5.
Junior Ellie Shuda, Monroe's No. 1 singles player and the only other Cheesemaker to advance out of the subsectional, lost her opening round to Lodi's Olivia Gallagher 6-2, 6-4.
Madison Edgewood won the sectional with 56 team points. Monroe was seventh, with 11 team points.
