DODGEVILLE - Wiota couldn't hang on to a two-run lead and Dodgeville came back to stun the Indians 8-7 in a Home Talent League game Sunday.
Wiota (5-1) entered the bottom of the ninth inning with a 7-5 lead. Dodgeville scored three runs with two outs to shock the Indians. Dodgeville's Khris Clerkin singled off Wiota pitcher Jeff Solberg to start the rally. Kristian Haag singled and Brandon Weier delivered an RBI double to cut the Indian's lead to 7-6. Wiota then committed an error that led to two runs and a walk-off win for Dodgeville which improved to 5-1.
Solberg went 3-for-5 and Merrill Brunson was 2-for-5. The Indians left 13 runners on base and left eight in scoring position.
"That really hurt us when you can't hit with runners on base," Wiota co-manager Dick Schliem said. "That is part of the game."
Wiota's Ben Conway pitched 6 1/3 innings and gave up five runs on seven hits. He struck out eight and walked five. Solberg pitched 2 1/3 innings and gave up five runs on three hits. He struck out three and didn't issue a walk.
