GALENA - The Darlington-Cuba City girls golf team had a very good day at the inaugural Lady Cat Invitational hosted by Southwestern in Galena Tuesday, Sept. 10.
Darlington-CC golfer Sami Poss was medalist with a 46 and Southwestern's Abby Reiff took second with a playoff over Lancaster's Heidi Marcue. Reiff had five strokes with Marcue having six strokes on the par 4, hole number nine. Reif and Marcue came in with a 47, one stroke behind Poss.
"This was a very close match coming down to the last (hole)," DHS/CC girls golf coach Jim Poss wrote in an email. "The Darlington/CC Redbirds came in second with their second best score of the season, 216. I was very proud of the girls as we had three girls in the 50s to go with Sami's 46.
"This is the third straight tournament that we played in weather over 90 degrees. I think all the girls in the conference think I'm the water boy, because of the tank of water I carry to each match.
"Lancaster played their steady team golf and came away with the first place team plaque. They continue to be the team to beat in the conference."
