BELOIT - In a tune-up for one of the biggest wrestling tournaments of the season, Darlington-Black Hawk finished 3-2 in the Beloit Turner duals Saturday, Dec. 21.

Darlington-Black Hawk defeated Jefferson 51-21, rolled past Pecatonica-Argyle 72-6 and knocked off Whitewater 64-12. The team lost a nail-biter to Union Grove 39-35 and lost to Beloit Turner 39-34.

Darlington-Black Hawk had three wrestlers go unbeaten: Jared Pickett (120), Kyrin Halvorson (126) and Dakota Meier (152). Darlington-Black Hawk was wrestling without Joe Quinn, who usually wrestles at 106. With the 3-2 mark Saturday, Darlington-Black Hawk improves to 9-2 in dual meets.

"There is no reason why we shouldn't have gone undefeated and be 11-0 now," Darlington-Black Hawk co-coach Jim Seffrood said. "We had to forfeit at 106 and that is a little frustrating."

Pickett (15-0) at 120 posted three pins. He pinned Whitewater's Brian Craft in 2:40 and pinned Beloit Turner's Anthony Bivens in 1:34. He won a match by forfeit and pinned Union Grove's Blake Hansen in 3 minutes.

Halvorson, who is wrestling at 126 in place of Colin Novak who had two broken fingers, finished unbeaten with three pins. He pinned Whitewater's Michael Fernandez in 1:06 and pinned Union Grove's Ben Wakefield in 1:41. Halvorson also pinned Beloit Turner's Dillon Williamson in 4:22.

Meier, at 152, had three pins and won one match by forfeit. Meier pinned Pecatonica-Argyle's Trevor Gilson in 2:34 and Whitewater's Thomas McManaway in 3:37. Meier pinned Union Grove's Will Weiss in 1 minute and defeated Beloit Turner's Gene Wright 11-1.

Five other wrestlers for Darlington-Black Hawk finished 4-1 Saturday including Caleb Novak (113), Beau Holland (132), Conrad Blosch (170), Taylor Evenstad (220) and Zach Wolf (heavyweight).

Darlington-Black Hawk will be back in action for the 40 team Mid-State Classic Friday, Dec. 27 in Whitewater. Seffrood said Colin Novak, who has been cleared to wrestle after overcoming two broken fingers, won't wrestle yet.

"We would rather see him at state than Mid-State," Seffrood said. "His finger is a little sore. There will be a lot of competition at Whitewater. We don't want to take a risk. We need him for the dual against Mineral Point."
