MONTICELLO - Albany put the bat on the ball throughout the game, knocking off the Ponies, 9-4, Monday.
Josh Peters was 3-for-3 with a double and a three-run home run that came in the top of the first. After Lucas Kolasch walked the first two batters of the game, Peters rocked the homer to give the Comets the early lead.
"Right from the start, that hurt us," Monticello head coach Jason Pinnow said. "The story of the game was too many walks from our starting pitching."
Kolasch allowed seven runs on four hits and nine walks in four innings; he also struck out six.
Cody Schultz took the win on the hill for the Comets, striking out four and allowing two walks and five hits.
Trailing 7-4 in the bottom of the fifth, Monticello had bases loaded with no outs, but the Comets pitched out of it, getting back-to-back force outs at home.
"We never got that hit we needed to score some runs," Pinnow said.
Albany (1-4) picked up its first Six Rivers East win of the season while Monticello falls to 2-3 in conference play.

DARLINGTON - River Valley brought the sticks to the park Monday.
The Black Hawks scored four runs in the second and nine in the sixth to end the game early in six innings.
