OREGON - The bats came alive for the Monroe softball team Friday and the Cheesemakers slugged their way to a 12-9 win over Oregon.
With the win, Monroe (6-14, 5-5 Badger South) avenged a 14-1 loss to Oregon earlier this year.
"It's a nice win for us," Monroe coach Dale Buvid said. "We kind of turned the tables on them a little bit."
The Cheesemakers pounded out 13 hits. Junior Kelsey Erickson was 4-for-5 with a triple and senior Brandi Trewartha finished 3-for-4 with a double.
Fellow senior Gwen Sutter set the tone with a two-out, two-run single in a three-run first inning for the Cheesemakers.
"That kind of got us going," Buvid said. "That got some confidence going."
Monroe freshman Becca Armstrong went the distance and earned the win on the mound. Armstrong gave up six hits. She struck out six and walked nine.
"For her third varsity game, she did a nice job," Buvid said. "Her change-up is coming. She threw hard. She's getting better every time out. We are convinced that she will be very good."
The Cheesemakers will host Stoughton Tuesday, which also will be Senior Night.
