EVANSVILLE - Monroe sophomore Kyle Bruce and Brodhead senior Jake Cole advanced to the WIAA Division 2 boys golf sectional after competing in the regional at the par 72 Evansville Country Club Tuesday.
Bruce shot an 84 and Cole fired a 79 to qualify for the sectional at Trapper's Turn Golf Course, Wisconsin Dells, Wednesday, June 2.
"We were lucky to get our 18-hole regionals match in with the storms rolling through the morning and mid-afternoon," said Brian Jensen, Monroe head coach. "Kyle let a few strokes slip by on his last three holes but still advanced and I look forward to taking him to Trapper's Turn for sectionals next week."
Monroe didn't qualify for the team sectional as junior Dylon Wilde shot a 92, senior Lucas Jordan shot a 94, and junior Jessy Stagliano shot 100, to go along with Bruce's 84 to give the Cheesemakers a team total of 370.
"It was a good experience for our first-year varsity players to be at regionals and I hope it will get them to play more this summer and get prepared for next season," Jensen said.
Brodhead shot a combined 389 with Cole's 79 and senior Kurtis Johnson carding a 100, senior Brett Heitzman a 103, and freshman Tyler Welsh a 107. Madison Edgewood (304), Edgerton (322), McFarland (326), and Evansville (334) qualified for next week's team sectional. Brodhead also failed to qualify for the sectional as a team.
