Brothers square off in city doubles tourney

MONROE - The 43rd city tennis doubles tournament was played this weekend with a field of class A teams. The Class A final featured brothers facing each other on opposite sides of the net.

It was the younger Soddy brother, Taylor, with his partner from Verona, Andrew Argall, defeating the older Soddy, Joe, with his partner Eric Buol in the finals.

Taylor Soddy and Argall defeated Al Schroeder-Chris Garrow in the semifinals to advance, and Joe Soddy-Buol defeated Elton Farr-Mark Dahnert from Beloit in the other semifinal match.

Third place went to Schroeder-Garrow with their win over Farr-Dahnert.

Consolation honors went to Brandon Gaston-Jacob Mitchell from Beloit, as they defeated Kevin and Matt Monahan.

The Women's Open bracket was won by Kelsey Erickson and Emily Grossen, as they defeated Ellie Grossen and Chandra McGuire in the finals.

Third place went to Chelsea Miller and Erin Gellings, as they defeated Katie Demianick and Eva Priewe.

There were no Class B Men's or 14-and-under brackets.

Area players are reminded of the upcoming Mixed Doubles Tournament coming up on Aug. 2, 3.
