Brodhead's season ends

DARLINGTON - The Brodhead softball team was shut out in their sectional semifinal against Poynette, ending their season with a 6-0 loss to the Pumas.

After both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings, Poynette's Samantha Lenius ripped an RBI triple to bring in the game's first score. After the Cardinals were held in check, Poynette (22-4) added on two more runs after the Pumas' Emily Cibulka recorded an RBI single. Clinging to their lead, Poynette rallied off three runs in the sixth off of a Shelby Wheeler double to add the game's finishing touches.

Junior ace Brooke Boegli picked up the loss for the Cardinals, ending her stellar season with a six inning performance in which she allowed 10 hits, six runs (five earned), four walks, while striking out seven hitters. Junior Erin Kloepping finished 2-for-3 at the plate for Brodhead, who as a team totaled three hits against Poynette's Jordan Blochwitz.
