MONROE - Wildness by Monroe starting pitcher Kris Rieder early on was tough to overcome as the Monroe Brewers' comeback bid fell short in an 8-6 loss to Blanchardville Friday in a Home Talent League game.

Rieder pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up five runs while walking six. He walked five in the first two innings as Blanchardville (4-8) built an 8-2 lead.

"He (Rieder) had some control problems early and we got into too big of a hole to dig out of," Monroe manager Scott Marty said.

Monroe (3-9) came through with a four-run eighth. The big blow in the inning came on Monroe's Seth Dasher's three-run double to cut the Bullets' lead to 8-6.

Blanchardville's Michael Pleimling gave the Brewers fits. He struck out 12 to get the win. He also added two hits and one RBI. Monroe's Mitch Marty went 4-for-4 and teammates Scott White, Ben Korth and Cole Logemann each had one RBI.

WIOTA - It took four pitchers, but the Wiota baseball team was able to hang on for a 10-9 win over Platteville.

Wiota's Ben Conway pitched 5 2/3 innings as the starting pitcher and he gave up six runs on 11 hits. He struck out seven and walked two. Tommy Meier pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief to get the win. He struck out two and walked four. The four pitchers for the Indians combined walked 10. Platteville left 17 runners on base.

"That stat really stuck out," Wiota manager Dick Schliem said. "We were really fortunate to win."

Wiota (8-4) scored three runs in the first inning and jumped out to a 6-0 lead. Wiota's Merrill Brunson went 2-for-2 and Rooney Janecke was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Kory Tuescher and Jay Haldiman each also had two RBI for Wiota.
