BELMONT - The Black Hawk boys basketball team continued its hot start to the season with a 56-34 Six Rivers Conference crossover win against Belmont Saturday, Jan. 4.
Black Hawk (7-1, 3-0 Six Rivers East) jumped out to an 18-8 lead over the Braves in the first quarter and built a 12-point lead at the half.
Black Hawk junior Heath Butler scored a game-high 18 points and senior Tyler Peterson added 10 points. Black Hawk senior Seth Butler chipped in nine points.
Black Hawk was scheduled to play at Warren today, but the game has been postponed. The Warriors will next host Monticello Friday, Jan. 10.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Clinton 73, Albany 24
ALBANY - Rock Valley Conference power Clinton was too much for Albany rolling to a 73-24 non-conference win over the Comets Saturday, Jan. 4.
Clinton (8-0, 4-0 Rock Valley) jumped out to a 21-8 lead and led by 23 points at the half. Clinton's Mallory Niemann scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Cougars. Albany was led by Marley Malkow who scored a team-high eight points.
The Comets shot 70.5 percent from the free throw line (12 of 17).
Albany's Sydnee Woyak added five points. With the loss, the Comets drop to 1-7, 1-2 Six Rivers East.
