SOUTH WAYNE - The Black Hawk-Darlington wrestling team has two freshmen ready to make their debut at the WIAA Division 3 state tournament.

Hunter Bredeson at 113 pounds and Kolbe Ubersox at 120 will both wrestle preliminary matches Thursday night at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Bredeson enters the state tournament with a 25-14 mark. He will face Cochrane-Fountain City freshman Max Dascher (30-7) in the opening round. Dascher is ranked No. 9 in the Wisconsin Wrestling Online Division 3 poll.

If Bredeson wins his preliminary match, he would face Random Lake junior Josh Depies (37-3), ranked No. 2, in a quarterfinal match on Friday.

One of the favorites to win a state championship at 113 is Fennimore senior Riley Lull, who placed third place last year. Lull (40-5) enters the tournament ranked No. 1.

Ubersox (34-10) will wrestle a preliminary match against sixth-ranked Stratford sophomore A.J. Schoenfuss (45-3) on Thursday.

Schoenfuss (45-3) won the state title at 106 last year. If Ubersox wins his first match, he would get a match against third-ranked Laconia sophomore Zachary Foth (41-6) in the quarterfinals.
