MADISON - Monroe graduate Kyleigh Sellnow had a flair for the dramatic in her basketball career with the Cheesemakers.
Sellnow continued that penchant for dramatic plays in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division 2 All-Star game at the UW Field House Friday.
Sellnow's last second buzzer beater was blocked by Luxemburg-Casco's Janelle VandenPlus as the North escaped the South All-Stars with a 65-64 win.
Sellnow scored eight points to go along with six rebounds and she had three steals.
VandenPlas scored a team-high 13 points to lead the North. She made 1 of 2 free throws with 5.2 seconds left to give the North a one-point lead.
Every year the WBCA runs the all-star games to raise money for the MACC Fund to help in the fight against childhood cancer.
Black Hawk graduates Rachel Rygh and Melissa Wellnitz played their last game together on the Division 5 South All-Star team and they lost to the North 66-58.
The South team jumped out to a 13-9 first quarter lead. The North came back and led 28-26 at halftime. The South led 45-44 heading into the fourth quarter. The North sealed the game by outscoring the South 22-13 in the fourth quarter.
Rygh scored five points and had five rebounds. Wellnitz scored four points and dished out five assists to go along with five rebounds.
Rygh and Wellnitz were catalysts in leading Black Hawk to its first unbeaten regular season, third straight state appearance and third consecutive Six Rivers East Conference title.
Rygh was the Warriors' go-to offensive player for much of the season averaging 14.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game.
There will be five boys playing in WBCA All-Star games today at the UW Field House. Monroe's Michael Barrett and Bryan Tordoff will play on the Division 2 South team; Brodhead senior J.J. Panoske will play on the Division 3 South team; Darlington's Alex Erickson will play on the Division 4 South team and Monticello's Tyler Ritschard will play on the Division 5 South team.
Spectators who attend to support the WBCA and the MACC Fund will have a $10 admission.
